Terms and Rules

OBJECT OF THE GAME

Score the most points by having your team's bowls next to the "Jack".

JACK

Little white ball

ENDS

Are like innings, a certain number of them constitutes the game, e.g. 12 or 14.

RINK

Is your team's section of the grass.  It's width is marked by the 2nd triangle on either side of the rink number.

MAT

Is used to deliver the bowl to the other end.  Face the number near you, then walk back from it about 6'.  Center it.  Stand on it facing your leader, "skip" at the far end.  Aim your feet towards a triangle along the edge of the skip's feet.

HAND

Forehand and backhand are determined by the small circle on the bowl and which way you want to approach the "Jack", from the right or the left.

BOWLS

Are what you roll towards the "Jack".  There are various sizes to fit hand sizes.

GRIP

Hold the bowl by the fingers, 3rd finger on the fattest part, 2nd and 4th fingers on the other rings and the thumb opposite the 2nd finger.  Try not to clutch it.  Actually grip it with space showing in the hallow of your hand.

DELIVERY

Bend at the waist and take a step forward and roll (not throw) the bowl straight towards your target, not at the "Jack" or at your rink number.  It will curve towards the "Jack" based on the small circle on the bowl and based on where you aimed it.

GAMES AND TEAMS

Games are mostly singles, pairs, or triples.

Team positions are lead, vice skip, and skip.
